CRS Designation - Certified Residential Specialist

When you see the letters CRS after a Realtor’s name, this represents the prestigious Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Designation by the Council of Residential Residential Specialists, the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.

The Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) is the highest Designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS Designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. Since 1977 the Council of Residential Specialists has been conferring the CRS Designation on agents who meet its stringent requirements.

Realtors who receive the CRS Designation have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate. Fewer than one in 300 Realtors nationwide have earned the credential.

Home buyers and sellers can be assured that CRS Designees subscribe to the strict Realtor code of ethics, have access to the latest technology and are specialists in helping clients maximize profits and minimize costs when buying or selling a home.

Be careful to inquire what the letters following a Realtor’s name really represent. You will find that many of these designations are nothing more than filling out a form and sending in a fee, or attending one class with no examination of skills. Not so with Certified Residential Specialists. In addition to a variety of classes that are required, there are elective class, and all have testing of skills. Moreover, there is a requirement of actual sales, so be careful when selecting a Realtor with a long list of the Alphabet, unless you’ve gone online to see what it really means.
